|
|
Resellers are very important to your business - or they SHOULD be!
Why then do you provide us with archaic tools, and a template system that only programmers can make sense of.
Many of us are designers, NOT programmers.
What we need is a website (template) system that is quick and easy to customize (re-brand), and one that doesn't require resellers to jump through fiery hoops in an attempt to get the look and brand we need.
Moreover, your resellers need better documentation.
Furthermore, the Reseller Website should be responsive to mobile devices and modern design standards. Currently, it is not.
The template system you provide is a web-standards dinosaur.
Come on HyperSpin, we need a website that is quick to prototype, and fast-to-live. With it, your resellers will thank you - and make money.
Most likely, you will reduce the number of support requests if you were to give us better tools!
Please give us better design tools so that we can make YOU money ... PLEASE ! We'll all make money and everyone will be happy this new year 2014 |

Hi geezer,
Happy new year to you.
Are you the same person who emailed us recently regarding the same issue?
Your request for an easier-to-customize theme system and more documentation had been noted and will be considered.
We would like to highlight that it is possible to resell our service without making any design or code changes. Rebranding can be done simply by providing us your company name, URL of your logo etc (under Reseller -> Settings). It is easy to get your reseller website up and accepting customers.
Resellers who wish to customize the website further (eg. to change the layout or graphical elements of the website) may find it challenging because there is no proper documentation. We will consider your request and prioritize it among other features we plan to implement.
You mentioned that the reseller website is not "responsive to mobile devices and modern design standards". As far as we know, the reseller website is CSS3 and XHTML-validated, and it renders properly on mobile devices. During development, we checked the website from many browsers and devices to ensure compatibility. Could you pinpoint the exact areas (if possible, with examples) that we should improve regarding website design? We will not be able to improve on anything if we do not have a clear idea of what to improve.
If you wish to have the ultimate control in design, you may consider to set your reseller website to just show the login page. This means your customers will only use the reseller website to login, setup monitoring, and view reports. This gives you the freedom to develop your own front-end website for marketing purposes, using the best design techniques you wish to use. You can see the screenshots at http://www.hyperspin.com/reseller.php .
Thank you. |

Thanks so much for your response.
NO, I haven't contacted you by email yet; though it is possible one of my partners may have asked you for improvements to your design system, as it was discussed amongst us last week.
We also discussed the possibility of developing our own 'front-door' site and linking this to our reseller sign-up/login links - which you kindly suggested here.
The main caveat to this is that, as we build the site, it will be vital to embrace the Hyperspin product and all that it does without actually mentioning Hyperspin brand or copying your text. Otherwise, doing so would likely incur an significant SOE penalty.
Creating our own text, closely following the Hyperspin philosophy and attention to detail will hide your brand as much as possible, whilst promoting it anonymously
Also, this site would be fully responsive to mobile devices.
Your own website and the one you have available to your resellers is not responsive to these devices.
To check this you only have to resize your own browser window from right to left to see that your website doesn't collapse gracefully into the narrower window.
Instead, one is forced to scroll in the window to the right to see the hidden content in the resized window.
With a responsive design, one would scroll down and the content will be delivered correctly. |

It is correct that the reseller website is not fully responsive to mobile devices, especially to smart phones. When viewing on a smart phone, you have to zoom in to read, and scroll left/right/up/down to read the whole page. On a tablet though, most people should be able to read without zooming in and scrolling left/right.
We did some reading on responsive web design, and agree that it is the ideal target which all websites should aim for. However, we face technical challenges whenever a design change is involved. We do not just handle a handful of web pages. We have a web application, and all pages are generated with programming codes. We also need to build a theme system that allows resellers to change layout, design and content easily. Thus, the task to change website design becomes very complex, although not impossible. We spent about 1 man-year to change to our current website design and build the theme system (current design & theme was launch in May 2013), so you can see that it is not an easy task.
This is what we can do:
- In the near to mid term, we plan to add a documentation to explain how to customize theme.
- In the mid to long term, we will evaluate the demand for responsive website (mainly to help smart phone users) and plan for implementation (if necessary).
You may want to seriously considering building your own "front-door" website. That gives you complete freedom in design. You can have a login form directly on your website. This brings users directly to the monitoring control panel. In your reseller control panel (under Reseller -> Settings), you can define the URL to load after users logout. Just make users return to the front-door website after logging out. This makes for a tight integration between your front-door website and the monitoring control panel. Sign up form and quick test form can also be added, if needed.
Thank you. |

We would like to add that, having a front-door website should not affect SEO. Currently, your reseller website IS a copy of Hyperspin website. Texts on your reseller website are mostly the same as that on Hyperspin, except branding is removed.
Thank you. |

Actually, what I was attempting to suggest is that as the Reseller Site is a copy of the Hyperspin website, that is where one might expect to see an SEO penalty, if the Reseller Site is left unchanged by the Reseller. It would thereby be duplicate content which the likes of Google et al would frown upon!
However, building a Front-Door site makes sense, especially if careful adherence to the presentation of HyperSpin without duplicating the reseller site, and the product - if that makes sense
To make that work, a thorough knowledge of how Hyperspin is presented would be vital. |

Thanks so much for your concise, open response.
I do appreciate that you have technical difficulties when designing your site and those for resellers.
I look forward to learning all about Hyperspin along the way and your future developments. |

Hi geezer,
Today, we had added the much needed "Reseller Theme Reference" to the reseller control panel. You may find the link in your control panel under Reseller -> Theme.
Thank you. |
