I have added a test to a SQL Server instance and while it Pings fine and a traceRoute of the IP address is fine, a traceRoute (and therefore the test) fails on the qualified subdomain.

Is there a way to test an IP address rather than the fully qualified name - or another solution?

We have replied to your questions by email as it is inappropriate to discuss private details (hostname, ports etc) publicly.

The short answer is that your monitoring was setup incorrectly. Monitoring works once we entered the correct information.
